Noteworthy Points

How many sessions?: Most of the time it can be done in a single session, other times it can take as many as three. There is no magic number of treatments due to many variables.
Is it painful?: It can be painful. Some people think so, while others say they hardly feel a prick. Some people compare it to being snapped by a hot rubber band. The consolation is that it's very quick. Pre-treatment icing helps significantly. A small, cool metal plate is also used to cool the area before treating.
What are vascular lesions?
Spider veins are small, thin, twisted blood vessels visible under the skin, often appearing red, blue, or purple, commonly on the legs or face. Spider veins are caused by weakened or damaged valves in veins, leading to poor blood flow.
Causes:

Genetics

Aging

Prolonged
Standing

Pregnancy

Hormones
Vascular Lesions
Lasers treat vascular lesions by emitting focused light energy that targets and heats the blood vessels, causing them to collapse and eventually fade without damaging surrounding skin.
Here's how it works step-by-step:

Laser Selection-
Our Technician choses the laser wavelength that attracts the chromophore (target), blood.

Breakdown of Veins-
The laser is pointed at the spider vein. The blood absorbs the heat and energy and collapses.

Disappearing Act-
Sometimes it completely vanishes immediately, while other times, it lightens significantly into a light brown or silver. Circulation of the blood then carries the remnants completely away after a few days.

Hair Cycles and Dormant FolliclesAs discussed, hair grows in cycles (anagen, catagen, telogen), and laser hair removal is most effective when the hair is in the anagen (growth) phase. Not all hair is in this phase at the same time, so multiple treatments are required to target hairs in different stages of growth. Dormant hair follicles (those in the catagen or telogen phase) may not be targeted during initial treatments. Over time, some dormant follicles may become active again, leading to new hair growth. Maintenance treatments can address these newly active follicles.
-
How do hormones affect laser hair removal?Hormones play a significant role in hair growth. Hormonal fluctuations, such as those experienced during pregnancy, menopause, or certain medical conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), can stimulate the growth of new hair or cause previously treated follicles to become active again. Understanding this can help set realistic expectations for the need for maintenance treatments.
-
Individuals Can Respond Differently to TreatmentNot everyone responds the same way to laser hair removal. Some people may have more resilient hair follicles that don’t respond as strongly to the laser, leading to some regrowth. Additionally, people with lighter hair or darker skin may need more frequent maintenance treatments, as these factors can affect the laser's ability to effectively target and disable hair follicles.
-
How do age and genetics affect laser hair removal? As people age, the body's hair growth patterns can change, and new hair growth can sometimes appear in areas previously treated. Genetic factors can also affect how well hair follicles respond to laser treatments. It's important to have realistic expectations and understand that maintenance treatments may be necessary.
-
Environmental and Lifestyle FactorsIn some cases, environmental factors or lifestyle habits may trigger new hair growth. Stress, diet, or even changes in medication can influence hair growth patterns.
